Unity Christian Mission: Love in Action
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
Education is the foundation for a better future. When children receive a quality education in a safe, nurturing environment, they gain confidence, financial security, and the tools to break the cycle of poverty. Yet, for many children in Liberia, access to education and nutritious meals remains out of reach.
At Unity Christian Mission (UCM), we believe in Love in Action - providing education, nutrition, and spiritual guidance to the most vulnerable children while empowering local staff through fair wages, sustainable employment and opportunities for further education at the local teachers college.
Education in Liberia: Key Statistics and Challenges
-
15-20% of 6-14 year-olds not in class and only 54% completing primary school.
-
Reaching just 1/3 of preschoolers.
-
This puts them at high risk of dropping out.
-
This is a lasting effect of the civil wars and further hinders education quality.
Vasco Wright is a father of one of our students. He talks about the importance of our school to the students and the community.
Why UCM exists:
Our mission is to provide food and education to less fortunate children, support staff members, and build school facilities that benefit both the community and the church.
In addition to serving students, UCM plays a vital role in addressing the lack of local employment opportunities by employing a dedicated team of 21 local staff members. By creating jobs and promoting economic stability, we empower families and strengthen the community.
In Liberia, poverty is rampant, and many children face hunger daily. Without intervention, these children are at risk of dropping out of school, leading to a cycle of hardship. UCM removes barriers to education by offering:
A tuition-free, Christian-based education for children from nursery through grade 8.
Daily meal programs providing breakfast and lunch for 157 students and 21 staff members. (2024-2025 school year numbers)
By investing in education, nutrition and employment, we are shaping the next generation of leaders in Liberia and building a foundation for long-term change.
How UCM delivers:
Our core values - Christian faith, integrity, compassion, and opportunity - guide everything we do.
100% child sponsorship model:
✔ Every dollar of child sponsorship funds goes directly to support education, meals, and essential resources for the school.
✔ Operating costs are covered through separate fundraising efforts.
The Impact of Your Support:
Continue providing a tuition-free education for children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to school.
Expand our meal programs to ensure no child studies on an empty stomach.
Invest in higher-quality learning materials, such as reading books, science equipment, and technology.
Support local staff salaries, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.
Send our teachers to college, enabling them to receive a college education, which will benefit both themselves and the children they teach.
BE THE DIFFERENCE THESE CHILDREN NEED
Together, we can uplift children, improve their quality of life through nutrition and education, and advance the gospel. Your support not only provides meals and education for children but also empowers local teachers and staff by ensuring they receive fair wages, strengthening the community from within.
